Common questions

Asked & answered.

With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 20 years. The porcelain itself won't stain or change colour over time. The most common reason for replacement is changes at the gumline as you age — not veneer failure.
Traditional porcelain veneers require minimal enamel removal to create room for the shell — this is a permanent commitment. No-prep or minimal-prep veneers are an option for some patients. We discuss which approach suits your anatomy at your consultation.
A veneer covers only the front face of a tooth; a crown encases the entire tooth. Veneers are the cosmetic choice when the underlying tooth is structurally sound. Crowns are indicated when significant tooth structure is missing or protection is needed.
Veneer preparation is done under local anaesthetic — you won't feel any discomfort during the procedure. Provisional veneers are placed the same day. Some sensitivity for a few days after is normal; it resolves once the final veneers are bonded.
Purely cosmetic procedures — veneers, whitening, smile design — are typically not covered. However, any restorative component (crowns on damaged teeth, implants replacing missing teeth) may be partially covered. We provide a fully itemised estimate at your consultation.
